CANADIAN SLEEPERS
FOR BRITISH RAILWAYS. LONDON January 13. It is stated in London that the Midland and Scottish railway have ordered 24,000,000 feet of British Colombian Douglas fir for sleepers. This marks the opening of a new policy of the British railways in confining chases to British manufacturers and Empire materials wherever possible. The railways spend collectively £40,000,000 annually, covering approximately 50,000 different materials. The new policy is expected to greatly increase Empire trade.
