WOMEN INSPECTORS

AS A MATTER OF POLICY. Pursuant to a promise made the Minister of Education' to the ■Women Teachers’ Association .last year that when a vacancy occurred on the primary schools Inspectorate an opportunity would be given for the appointment of a woman teaolver, Sir James Parr stated yesterday morning at Wellington that .the Government had decided as a matter of policy to give women a ohanoo to show what they could do 'as inspectors. V, Over two-thirds of the teachers in the New Zealand primary schools, remarked Sir James were women, and it seemed only a fair, the women should have an opportunity to prove their ability in the' higher positions. The Public Service Commissioner very shortly would . advertise the next vacancy for an inspector, applications being confined to women only, in all parts of the Dominion, and a woman would be appointed, to the position. % S'f Sir James added that ,ihsr* were two vacancies for high school Inspectors—new ofllces which were 'just being created —and one of them would be given to a woman. v;
