ART AND THE AXE. [Per Press Association.] DUNEDIN. East Night. Two big popular attractions begin to -morrow —the championship competitions festival and the grand axe " men’s championship carnival. The da;, sessions of competitions begin at 10 o’clock in the festival hall and the evening session at 8. The prize-money is the biggest ever offered in New Zealand and the honour of appearing, perhaps winning a place in an exhibition contest, has attracted the cream of the Dominion’s talent. Competitors have been left free to select their own pieces, so that every event will be interesting. The axemen’s carnival will be held under th e blaze of powerful aro lamps on the sports ground, beginning each evening at 7.50. All the well-known New Zealand axemen and others from Australia ar 0 competing, so fierce and exciting contests may be expected. Prize-money for the axemen’s carnival, which includes Highland piping and dancing to be held on Saturday, sets another record for the Dominion and it is claimed that the carnival will bo in every way the biggest of its kind ever held In Australasia. ;
