OUR ERRATIC TRANSPORT

[To the Editor.] Sir, —From the reports from time to time given by the Traffic Committee In charge of our local buses, they give one thp impression that The business does not pay. On three nights, vi., th 0 Scouts Rally, AustraTan Band, and Orchestral concert, no attempt was made by the Traffic Department to take the audience to their homes, after the shows were over. Unfortunately, each of the above entertainments lasted until atfer 10 p.m. and the res'dc-nts on the outer circuit had to “pad the hoof" home. On Tuesday niaht. the closing performance of the Orchestral Society, crowds of people were waiting for the transport wagons to take them home, all with the nimble “saxpence" to pay their fare. Why are we not catered for when something good i n en t er ~ tainment line is on? If X C. Williamson and Co. have a show on, or a local celebrity is doing a "sp<out,” the "wagons” are all lined up to handle the crowd who want- to get home “pronto.” I am sur e the citizens of this burg are a long suffering, patient and docile crowd, or they would not stand the treatment meted out to them by our progressive council. We want the “wagons” to pav for themselves, not to be kept alive out of the rates, and I think that all free rides should he abolished absolutely. There should be no “dead heads” if we want a paying service. The working man has to pay his fare. Why not the ‘"heads?” I am, etc., “JOHN DRINK WATER.” [R.S. We were better off for transport when private enterprise was running.]
