DERAILED AT GREATFORD
MISHAP TO GOODS TRAIN. DISORGANISED PASSENGER SERVICES. Monday afternoon was the third occasion on which the Greatford railway station was the scene of a railway accident in the shape of a mishap to a goods train. The freighter which usually arrives in Feilding shortly after four p.m. be. came involved in trouble when endeavouring to negotiate the points at the station. The engine and tender and three trucks overturned, completely blocking the track. In consequence of this, the Main Trunk and Wanganui services became disorganised, and all trains requiring to negotiate this section of the main line were held up. Of the down trains, passengers bound south on the Wanganui-Palmerston mixed goods were transferred at Greatford, and arrived at the destination some three hours after scheduled time The line was not cleared until early yesterday morning, when the or. dinary main trunk and the “limited" continued their journey north together from Marton. The southbound “limited” was about twenty minutes late in passing through Feilding yesterday morning This repetition of trouble at Greatford station will, it is understood, be the subject of an inquiry.
