The engagement is announced of Marjorie, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Goring Johnston, of “Oaklmrst,” Palmerston North, to Lieutenant Gerald V. Gladstone, R.N., son of Mr. and Mrs. Gladstone, Llandaff, South Wales.

Miss Melville, who for many years past has been matron of the Wairoa Hospital, is resigning from the position at an early date.

The engagement is announced of Mary, younger daughter of Mrs. and tho late Mr. Peter Thomson, of Pahiatua, to Reginald, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Livingstone Taplcy, of Dunedin.

A legacy of £IOO has been left to the New Zealand Nurses' Memorial Fund under the will of the late Miss H. K. Payne, for many years matron at Wellington, and now forms part of tho invested fund.

Of particular interest to residents of Rangitlkol is tho news of the death ot Miss Annie Burns, a grand-daughter of the famous Scottish poet. Miss Burns was llrst cousin to Mr. R. E. Beckett, of Marton, who is well-known throughout Rangitikei and the West Coast.

At last night’s meeting of the St. John Ambulance Nursing Division a vote of sympathy was passed to Miss B. Hayman and her mother in their recent sad bereavement, Miss Hayman being a member of the NursingDivision.

The world, according to the critics, has gone "dance mad,” but, bo that as it may, it is an attractive form of lunacy.
