DRANK METHYLATED SPIRITS.
SAID IT WAS FOR PHOTOS. That he was found with a bottle of methylated spirits was a statement made concerning James Maxwell, aged 80. a labourer, who was arraigned before Mr J. H. Stevens, J.P., at the Police Court on Saturday, charged with drunkenness. “It was for some photographic plates,” said accused. Apparently you are going to the dogs,” said the Bench. “I have seen many a young man like you practically saved by taking out a prohibition order against himself. Will you do so?" After carefully ascertaining what penalties an order held, Maxwell agreed. “It’s all very well a man like thl* coming here and saying he is sorry,” broke in Senior-Sergeant O’Grady. “Immediately after the other case yesterday morning, he went out and got drunk again, and used methylated spirits when he could not procure beer.”
The Bench: “I think he will be alright.” A fine of £1 was Imposed in addition to the prohibition order measure, in default 48 hours’ imprisonment.-
