SALVATION ARMY.
DIVISIONAL CONFERENCE. The annual Young People’s Divisional Conference and Bible Study was conducted in Palmerston North during the wcek-ofid. At the various sessions there -were delegates representing the various corps in Napier. Hastings, Dannevlrke, Wellington, Carterton, Masterton, Pahiatua. Woodville, Marton, Feilding, Levin and Foxton and altogether they numbered in the vicinity of 600. The conference was under the control of Divisional Headquarters and the services held yesterday were conducted by Commissioner R. Hoggard and his wife who had journeyed from Wellington to take part. The commissioner was assisted by Majors AWilson and J. Bladin and Staff Captain E. Garner. Three sessions were conducted throughout the day yesterday when the commissioner rendered very interesting addresses and explained to tho delegates many phases of Christ’s teachings. In the afternoon session, Adjutant F. Graham, a missionary sent out to China from England and who is at present spending her furlough in New Zealand, gave a snort address on the customs and characteristics of the Chinese race, and explained some of the many difficulties that the missionaries encounter in their work. During the intervals of the various sessions the gathering indulged in community singing, led by an orchestra. Young People’s Demonstration. On Saturday evening'the delegates were entertained at a very delightful and enjoyable demonstration which took the form of a concert. The Citadel was crowded and the efforts of the performers wre greatly appreciated. Th programme, which was organised by Staff Captain B. Ensign Carroll; dialogue “Doors of Opportunity.” company (Palmerston N.): solo, “The Lost Chord,” Pearl Geard, (Dannevlrke); tableau, “Youth at the Cross-Roads,” company (Palmerston North)'; duet, selected, Phyllis and Horace Tong (Foxton): piano duct selected, Repaid and Gilbert Read, solo, selected, Eunice Read (Masterton): tableau, “The Nation’s Needs." arranged by Mrs. Petty (Feilding): solo, selected, Alfie Smith (Dannevirke); United Flag song. "Message of the Flag,” company: recitation, selected, Sister Sherman, C.C.G. (Woodville) ; Euphonium solo, Muriel Pollock (Levin): tableau, "Abon Ben Adhem,” arranged by Mrs. Petty (Feilding).
To-day, will be devoted to two sessions for conference of officers oniy, of the various different corps In the Hawke’s Bay, Manawatu, and Walrarapa divisions. The meetings will be conducted by Col. A. Carmichael, who will be assisted by Adjutant A. Charker and Staff Captain E. Garner.
