AUSTRALIANS OVERWHELMED.

IN THIRD SOCCER TEST. ENGLAND DOES HAT TRICK. [By Electric Cable —Copyright.] [Ausfi and N.Z. Cable Association.] (Received Sunday, 9 p.m.) SYDNEY, July 12. Playing at top form the English Soccer eleven outclassed Australia in third test, at Maitland, by 8 to 2. Ten thousand people were present. Batten was unable to go wrong, shooting with deadly and unerring accuracy from whistle to whistle he scored five goals, bringing his tally to thirty-eight for the tour. Cartwright 'was constantly peppered by the visitors, some shots escaping his vision altogether. The local players, despite a dismal showing on paper, performed creditably in the circumstances. They were simply out of their class. Hannaford placed a corner conceded by Storey and Batten tipped it under the bar within a few minutes of the commencement. Simms added a goal and Batten immediately scored with a convincing shot which found Cartwright off his legs. Then Hannaford with a cross-kick hit the post, the ball rolling into the net. The visitors, playing in great heart, “hit out’’ and Batten, collecting a long pass, electrified the crowd by banging into the net. Before the interval Lennard opened the scoring for Australia from a centre by McNaughton. At half time the scores were s—l.5 —1. Play in the second term continued on similar lines. The final scores were 3 —2. The total receipts to date amount to £17,000.
