CHESS NOTES.
(By “A.W.”) There was nearly a full attendance of members at the meeting - of the Palmerston North Chess Club in the Orient "Hall on Monday evening. Results of play in the tourneys were as follows, the first-named player in each case having' the white pieces.: Championship, Section A: —Espiner score at close of play 1J and 4 to play) drew with G. R. Morine (1 —3), and K. Thorburn (2 —3) defeated H. R. Thorburn (i —4). Section B.—T. A. Morine (3 —3) defeated Gatley (I—3), Whitaker (0 —5) lost to Wright (1 —5), and L. Thorburn (0 —4) lost to Richards (2—3). Handicap tourney.—Nasmith (2 —6) defeated Hayward (1 —5), to whom Faull (0 —7) lost. In the ladder competition, A, Stewart retained rung 15 against Foot (17) by 2—o. Mr. A. .T. Morgan was elected a member of the Club.
