FUSION.

REFORMERS ACCUSED OP UNFAIR TACTICS. [From Our Parliamentary Reporter.] WELLINGTON, July 7. That the Reformers arc not playing the game with the Liberals over the fusion discussions was the jibe hurled by Mr. Howard (Labour) in the course of his speech in the House to-night. Mr. Howard mentioned the fact that the Reformers were choosing candidates all over the country, while they were “holding the other follows down to a promise that they are going to fuse.”

“No!” interjected the Hon. A. D, McLeod emphatically.

Mr. Howard replied that a Mr. Loach was going round Canterbury organising, while the Reformers were talking fusion. “That is not sporting,” he said.

The Prime Minister: “Quite wrong.” Mr. Howard: “I say that if fusion comes about the Liberals will be swallowing all their pride and taking it at any price. It is not playing the game when one side won’t stick to the bargain—-when one sides goes out and tries to snatch the jobs.’’ (Reform laughter).

“Oh. yes,” said Mr. Howard, “that is another of the laughs coming from another of the same family referred to the other night—the donkey laugh.”
