SCHOOL PIANO FUND. [From Our Own Correspondent.] On Saturday a street stall was held, the object being to raise funds for a school piano. A number of ladies assisted by the school committee and the headmaster were in charge of the. stall which contained a large assortment of produce and vegetables, fruit cakes, jam, poultry and sundries. There were also competitions for young and old. The cause being a worthy one was well responded to, and at the end of the day it was found that the splendid sum of £4O 6/2 i haa rewarded the efforts of those concerned. Following are the results of the competitions. Skipping; Seniors: Margaret Swindlehurst; Nola Butters: weight of roast beef dinner, 25Jibs, W. Brown; turkey dinner; number of maize In bottle (600): Mrs J. Curran (Albion Hotel); teddy bear, name "Sambo”: Joyce Blackwood; iced cake, correct weight lOlbS: Mrs W. Butler, lOlbs 30z.; dolls’ bed. No 14; Mrs. Freeman: bunch of artificial flowers, number 29: Mr J. McMillan; cushion, number pins 54: Mrs Wan man and O. Tippler tied, 53; number of steps taken by Town Clerk from his chair in Council Chambers to the Bank of Now Zealand and back again, 3,10: J. V. Burns 309. • The school committee have received a letter from the Education Board to the effect that they are unable to accede to the request of the committee that a new residence be erected for the headmaster. Benefit Social. A social and dance will be held in the Driuds’ Hall on Thursday 2nd, July, the object being to raise funds in aid of a member of the Shannon Football Club’s junior team, who was seriously injured in the ShannonMiranui match on Saturday. The dance is being held under the auspices of the Shannon Social Club. Golf. On Saturday last a series of matches were played between teams chosen by the president and captain, and resulted in a win for the president by a narrow margin. Next Saturday a one club match is to be held, members to choose their own partners. As the same golf club is to be used throughout the match, some amusing incidents should be witnessed.
