MANAWATU RUGBY UNION.

EXECUTIVE MEETING LAST NIGHT. Mr !A. Hannay (president) was in the chair at last night’s meeting of the M.R.F.U. executive. Members present were Messrs W. Carruthers, L, Clevely, H., Crawford, W. Dustin, K. W. Eglinlon, A. S. Paire, J. R. Hardie, W. A. Lyon, G. W. Wardrop, C. W. White and J. B. Proud (hon. secretary.)

Senior gates at the last two matches at Felldihg were: v. Western United £9 15/6; v. Old Boys £l4 4/6. Western United club was granted the use of a ground (Grey street) on Saturday to play Pahiatua, the Bush district senior bye team.

It was decided that all matches, up to the end of July, be started not later than 2.46 p.m.

The Terrace End School committee notified that when the Rugby Union required the Terrace End school ground for matches, it would, in future be necessary to make application to the secretary not later than the Wednesday of each week for th grounds for Saturday.—Received. Jackeytown asked that a match or two In the junior or fourth grade competition be played on its Longburn ground.—lt was decided that the request be not granted. The Western United Football Club applied to have R. Burstall transferred from senior to junior,—Referred to classification committee. The Housemaster-captain of Flock House wrote on behalf of trainees thanking the Union for sending Jackeytown fourths out on June 13th, and stating that the opposition players had displayed a fine sporting spirit. The Danncvirkc sub-Union notified acceptance of July 22nd (Wednesday) as suitable for the match with Manawatu representatives at Woodville. The Wellington Rugby Union notified that it was not possible to send its third grade representatives to visit Palmerston North this year, but hoped to be able to do so next season.—lt was decided that the game be offered to Bush as a curtain-raiser to the Manawatu-Southiand game on August 12th.

The Bush Rugby Union asked if a junior representative match with Manawatu could be played at Palmerston North on Wednesday, July 29th.

Mr C. White reported on the Man-awatu-Oroua match at Kimbolton on Saturday, he being manager of the former team. Mr Iv. W. Eglinton also reported on the visit to Te Kawau, and both gentlemen were thanked for their services.

The chairman suggested the usual division of the junior competition into two sections at this stage of the season. —Referred to the fixtures committee.

Mr«J. R. Hardic suggested that in the event of the All Blacks 1925 v. 1924 match not coming off, application be made for the Wellington-Horowhenua-Manawatu fifteen to play the All Blacks on July Bth, either at Wellington or Palmerston North. This would greatly facilitate the selection of the combined team to play New South Wales at Palmerston North, on August 22nd.

Bunnythorpe "Carries On.”

The Western United Football Club wrote that as Bunnythorpe had definitely decided not to play any more in the junior competition, transfers were required for R. Sutherland, W. Andrews, H. Hughes, D. Higgie and A. Burgess.

Jackeytown club applied for the transfer of Harold Jensen from the Bunnythorpe club. The Palmerston North Technical Old Boys club applied for the transfer of Henry Godfrey from Bunnythorpe. Mr Clevely said Bunnythorpe had held a meeting on Monday night and had decided to "carry on.” This settled the above three applications for club transfers. A “Protest.” The Feilding fourth grade team protested against Western United’s win on the ground that the opposing side played third grade players, and also in the opinion of the signatories, the referee never controlled the game, but the game was certainly controlled by a Western player. The letter went on to say that Mr Pagan was asked to enter the protest, but he was not inclined to do so. So the Feilding team wished the Union not draw it in any future fourth round fixtures unless the Western United game was replayed.—Ruled out of order as a “protest,” it not having gone through the Feilding club. BUSH CONFIDENT OF STAVING \ OFF DANNEVIRKE. , Bush district has the finest Rugby | side that it has ever put in the field and the fact that the Dannevirkc j aspirants for the Bebbington * Shield . include several international players is not causing any concern to the defenders. The Bush fifteen is confident it will still be in possession of the trophy when hostilities cease late this afternoon. The fact that Nepia and Paewai, members of the 1924 All Blacks, are playing at Pahiatua, of course, adds greatly 1 to the personal interest' in the match, but does not. so it is claimed, turn the balance of Rugby power in Dannevirke’s favour. The northerners, too, are fielding the strongest, side that has ever represented the sub-union and as the yellow-and-blacks are equally confident of victory, those who are fortunate enough to see to-day’s game are in for a' great treat of football. In view of the importance of the occasion, the first programs ever j offered in the Bush are being got out. They are peculiarly appropriate to the occasion, with a cover design of "Nepia, the Incomparable," and ; carry enlarged insets of the old and 1 new Prime Ministers. , BONE OF CONTENTION. TE KAWAU’S APPEAL. The Te Kawau Sub-Union forwarded ‘ a letter written through it to the M.R.F.U. by the United Football • Club:—“The United Football Club 1 wishes to appeal against the decision • of the management committee of the • To Kawau Sub-Union re a matoh Cen- ! trai v. United juniors 'played on May 1 23. Central played a senior man ! against United on that dale. Prior to t (his, Central applied to the chairman of the Te Kawau Sub-Union for a pro- >■ visional permit to play the man and i was refused In the face of this Central played him and wo therefore «’ claim that the match be forfeited to United. The decision of the manage- - ment committee is that the game bo i replayed, to which our team objects. 3 We therefore respectfully ask your i Union for a decision on the matter. R. j Gates, hon. secretary U.F.C.

The Te Kawau Sub-Union In forwarding the letter notified that Messrs. J. M. Croucher and A. K. Drew would explain the circumstances to the M.R.F.U. if necessary.

After hearing the delegation, which brought with it Central’s version (a letter written by the captain), it was decided that the rules should bo observed and the match awarded to United. (It was generally agreed, however, that in equity the decision of the Sub-Union was just and reasonable in ordering the game—the result was a draw—to be replayed). The following was the official motion proposed by Mr. Faire, seconded by Mr. Lyon and carried: —“That, in the opinion of this Union the decision arrived at by the To Kawau Sub-Union on the facts of the cas& was a fair and reasonable one and should be accepted by the clubs concerned. In accordance with the rules under which the match was played United is entitled to win by default in accordance to- clause 4 of the rules governing M.R.F.U. club contests.”
