CYRENA INQUIRY.
LOG ENTRIES DECLARED FAULTY. [Per Press Association.! WANGANUI, Last h/ght The Magistrate made the following statement during the Cyrena inquiry: “If the oral evidence of Captain Patterson and his officers is to accepted—and we do not wish to say we do not accept it—lt may be con-, sidered proved that the ship’s draught was approximately sixteen feet six inches. Wc are of opinion that this evidence should be by documentary evidence in the ship’s log In a form that would, put it beyond doubt on this point. We are of opinion that these records are not satisfactory and show some evidence of slackness. The log books have not followed the Instructons and do not give the help they should.”
