A London cable states that the late Alfred Lester, the comedian, loft £37,000. The wholsale price of butter in Sydney has been increased 4/8 to to 1-03/4 a hundred-weight. Services in connection with the Church Rally Month Were continued at St. Andrew’s Church yesterday there being good attendances, especially in the morning. The following notice was put up on the black-board outside the produce hall- at the Manawatu and West Coast, A. and P. Showground: "Found, one baby, answers to name of Peggy— Apply within.” •['' One of the most popular exhibits at the show was the "Free Shirt” competition run by the makers of the "Topmost” brand. Fifty-four shirts were given away and the last list of successful competitors appears in today’s issue. The Davis Cup players, Patterson and Hawkes .arrived at Honolulu on Friday and played an exhibition game on an asphalt court. The weather was hot and the halls light. S. Snodgrass defeated Patterson 6—o. 6 —l; B. Kinsey and Snodgrass defeated Patterson and Hawkes 7 —6, 6—3. The meeting, one of a local body in Palmerston North on Saturday, was nearing -conclusion. "I would like a movie,” said a member in a sympathetic voice, "a motion of sympathy With Mr. Blank in the loss of his—boat!” And the reporter swallowed his cigarette. The directors of the New Zealand Farmers’ Co-operative Association of Canterbury, Ltd., have issued a letter to all classes of shareholders relating to a proposal for the reduction of capital and the elimination of accumulated preference dividends and loss, states a Christchurch message. The proposal -concern first preference and "A” and “B” preference and ordinary shareholders. Some beautiful Italian and French silk square shawls for evening wraps are on view at The C. M. Ross Co. Ltd.’s. All with heavy deep silk fringes in glorious colours. Those shawls are everywhere taking the fancy of smart women. Sec them without delay.
