Opinion in shipping circles is that there will be a hold-up in Inter-State shipping, following up the deregistration of the Seamens’ Union. The shipowners are apparently forcing the issue. So far Sydney is not affected by the decision of the Melbourne shipowners not to place in the new article a- clause guaranteeing the same wages and conditions as those existing before the Union's deregistration, but the articles of inter-State vessels trading with Sydney will shortly expire and the fight is then expected to begin here. The Melbourne Wharf Labourers’ Union declined to handle cargo from the Monara unless the steam was supplied bY Union donkeymeu.
