•I mf: til m m ■m* ;SSSS pm m * m m Viola’s Queen Bess. The sensation of yesterday’s Show Stud Stock Sale was the price (500 guineas) paid for Mr R. Cobbc’s live-year-old cow Viola’s Queen Bess. As a three-year-old, she produced 6481 b butter-fat. and has had a notable showring career, winning the reserve champion at the Royal Show,- and later at Foil ding, she succeeded in defeating the Royal winner. It is generally conceded that this cow is one of the outstanding Jerseys in the Dominion. Bidding commenced at 200 guineas, to the bid of Mr J. O’Donnell, Bunnythorpc. There was a lull at 350 guineas, when Mr W. T. Williams, of Te Auto, took up the running against the bidding of a New South Wales bidder, finally securing the cow amidst cheers at 500 guineas. The auctioneer, Mt- Robertson, named Doctor Meredith, of New South Wales, as the runner-up. The half sister to this cow, in Viola’s Golden Porn, sold for the second highest price of 210 guineas, to Mr Truby King, of Stratford. The average for Mr Cobbc’s herd, which was dispersed in its entirety, was just short of £IOO. Mr R. B. Horn, of Ohau, who held his first annual sale, offered an excellent selection of in-calf heifers and young bulls. The eleven heifers and the six young bulls averaged 44& guineas. The buyers coming from all over the Dominion. The four head offered on account of Mr Mein were all sold under the hammer also, Mr B- Heckler, Wairarapa, paying the top price of 312 guineas for the four-year-old bull, Holly Oak Comedy Chief. The thirty-four head Included in the sale realised a total of 2260 guinWis, an average of just under £7O. This is the second highest average of the year. The sale was conducted by Messrs Abraham and Williams Ltd., in conjunction with Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Co. Ltd., and Messrs Dalgety and Co. Ltd.
