FEILDING GAS WORKS.

SUGGESTION OF A SALE. The directors of the Fcilding Gas Company have approached the Feilding Borough Council with an inquiry as to whether the Council is prepared to negotiate for the purchase of the works. This information was made available at last evening’s meeting of the Council, when a letter wes road from the secretary of the company. , The Mayor (Mr. W. E. Carthew) said that the Council would have to consider the question in the light of any of the works closing down. At present, there was a large number of ratepayers using gas for different purposes, and it would he unfortunate if the works closed down, and the supply was cut off. He did not think the Council would Be doing any harm in meeting the secretary of the company to discuss the whole position, for the Council might be placed in the position at a later date seriously to consider taking the works over. He moved that the secretary of the company be asked to wait on the Council at its next meeting. Councillor L. A. Elliott endorsed the Mayor's remarks as to the usefulness of the works, and considered it unfortunate if they closed down.

The. Council resolved to invite the secretary of the company.
