KIWITEA COUNTY COUNCIL.

A special meeting of tlie Council was held at Kimbolton on Saturday last. There were present Councillors L. T. McLean (chairman), W. P. Shaw, D. H. McLean, F. O. Stack, J. A. T. Brown, W. Hair, T. D. Wood. The principal business was to consider the estimate of receipts and expenditure and to strike to the general rates in the various ridings. After considering the estimates it was proposed by Councillor Hair and seconded by Councillor Shaw; That the - wages of the permanent workmen be fixed as under: 14/- per day . (maximum); .13/- per day (minimtVn). That the permanent roadmen be granted a half-holiday every Saturday afternoon, except the weeks in which statutory holidays are allowed. That for the four months commencing'.from' Ist May,'the roadmen must work 44 hours per week and for the balance of the year 48 hours per week. Kates for the Year. Proposed by Councillor L. T. McLean, seconded by Councillor Shaw and carried:—

That it is the intention of this Council at a special meeting to be hold on the 27th day of May. 1925, to make and levy General Rates under the provisions and authorities of "The Rating Act, 1908,” and Section 120 of

"The Counties Act, 1920,” and respective amendments on the rateable valuation (on the basis of the Capital Value) of all rateable property of the following nine Ridings of which this County consists, as under;—Cheltenham Riding, ijths of Id in the £; Kiwitea Riding, 5/Bths of Id in the £; Waituna Riding, 2d of Id in the f; Ongo Riding, 5/Bths of Id in the £; Kimbolton Riding 13/16th of Id in tlie f; Peep-O’-Day Riding, 2ths of Id in the £; Pakihikura Riding 7/Bths of Id in the £; Rangiwahia Riding, 3ths of Id in the £; Hautapu Riding, Id in the £. Such rates to be payable in one sum, at the County Offices ICimbolton, on the 23rd of Juno, 1925. General. It was decided that Crs. Stack and Brown bo appointed to sign the special order declaring "Hemlock” a noxious weed in the County of Kiwitea; That the Common Seal of the Chairman, Councillors and inhabitants of the County of Kiwitea be affixed to the said special order; that the County Clerk be empowered to pay salaries and wages on the 20th of May next.
