Mr A. Hannay, president of the Manawatu Rugby Football Union, was unable to bo present at the annual general meeting of the N.Z.R.F.U., of which he is a vice-president.
On Thursday, Mr. J. A. McCrea, of Palmerston North and Mr. C. Parkinson, of Marton, visited the Show of (ho Marton Horticultural Society, which those two enthusiasts established in April 1805, just 30 years ago. Messrs. K Eglinton and W. Carruthors, Mahawatu's delegates to the big Rugby meeting at Wellington, returned to Palmerston North by the “limited" last night. They worthilj hold their end up as will be seen bj the fixture list of the N S.W. team's New Zealand tour published on today’s cable page.
Messrs Jas. Garcia, president, and Jas. McLeod, past president of the Taranaki Rugby Union, arrived in Palmerston North last night after their visit to Wellington for the N.Z.K.F.U. annual meeting. Mr. McLeod went on to Marton as he is anxious to motor on to Hawera for the Tukapa-Hawora game 10-day. Mr. Garcia leaves Palmerston North early tills morning and wilj bo at Patca for the kick-off in ■ the CiU’ton-Patea match.
Feeling reference to the (.'passing West" of many stalwarts of Rugby during the past twelve months was made by Mr. H. Frost (President) at the annual meeting of the Now Zealand Rugby Union on Thursday. Among the number referred to were: Dr. A. K. Newman, M.L.C., past president and a loyal supporter of the game; Mr. JJ. E. Hiddloslonc, of Christchurch, n'n old player and referee, and a member of last year s Appeal Committee; and Mr. George Williams, a member of the 1888 Now Zealand team which toured Great Britain. Mr. Frost statacd that the late Dir. Williams was an interested spectator both at. the doparturuc and return of the 1924 All Blacks. Sincere sympathy was extended to relatives, and as a mark of respect to the memory of the. deceased gentlemen all delegates stood in silence.
