STANWAY.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) On Thursday night, a representative meeting of settlers was held in the Stanway Hall to discuss ways and means of paying off the outstanding money owing for the recent alterations. After some discussion it was decided unanimously to hold a bazaar on July Ist (details to be advertised later). It was also thought that Mr John Morrison, of Wanganui, should be asked to open the bazaar, as he had been one of the founders of the Hall Association. Canvassers are to canvass the district thoroughly for funds, a canvasser being appointed to each road. As the ladies’ committeewhich meets on Tuesday, had no funds to commence with, several gentlemen present each donated £1 towards the expenses. There will be a general meeting next Thursday to discuss progress of the canvassers. Other workers intend holding a euchre party and dance next Friday, subsidiary to this. Messrs Caiman and C. Christian were appointed door-keepers, for the tea-rooms, while Mr A. Ca.llingham is to exercise- ‘a similar position at the entrance to the hall. The other arrangements wore left in the hands of the ladiescommittee; as the ladies would be the real organisers of the bazaar. Mr E. Christian acted as chairman of the gathering, while Mr Craine acted in the capacity of secretary. Mr R. A. Brew was made honorary adviser-in-Chief, owing to his success in previous functions.
