Manawatu Daily Times THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 26, 1925 Election Year.
Gradually interest in the political situation is quickening’. This is election year, but as far as can be judged the election is yet a good way off. Normally wo will have an election at the end of the present year, but there are possibilities which would bring polling day considerably nearer. It is unnecessary to discuss these possibilities, as they arc remote. However, the fact that this is election year has quickened interest in the coming fight. Already the leaders of some of the parties are active. Mr. Holland, who leads the Labour section of the House, has embarked on a New Zealand-wide tour. He proposes to stump the whole country, speaking every night except the night on which ho crosses from the North Island to the South Isla’nd. Mr. Wilford and his lloutanents have been in conference and in duo course the result of their deliberations, no doubt, will be heard. So far, we are told, the Liberals are very hopeful. It cannot be presumed that the Reformers are idle and their excellent organisation is unlikely to be allowed to rest. A new party again is on the horizon —• the Country Party. We have heard of the Country Party on previous occasions, but It has not yet materialised at the hustings. However, assurances have been given that there will be no withdrawing on the present occasion. In the circumstances the next election can be looked forward to with moro .than usual interest, and may be the doing of the session which opens in June will throw some light on the possibilities.
