“MINDING IT FOR UNCLE.”
BURGLARS HELP THEMSELVES TO CHRISTMAS PRESENTS.
Burglars effected an entrance to the shop of Penketh, second-hand dealer, of Main-strcet-wcst one night last •week, and stoic several watches and chains to a total value of £7. The party or parties first tried to force the back door with a chisel, but finding this impossible, smashed a window in the rear of the shop. The lock of an intervening door was then broken, and the main shop entered. Several metal watches in the window were removed, but 'nothing else, including the safe and till, was touched. The size of the hole in the window leads one to believe that the burglary was done by a boy or a very small man, as the break was too small to allow of the passage of an ordinary sized person. A neighbour states that the burglary occurred between 10 and 11 p.m., as she heard activity in the shop at that time, and thought it was Mr Penketh moving about.
