NEW RADIO ERA
CHEAPER COMMUNICATION. SHORT-WAVE SYSTEM. LONDON, December 6. The Cape Times describes the establishment of direct wireless between Capetown and Poldhu (Cornwall), a s meaning not only the definite open, ing of a new era in Empire communications, but also probably the rapid triumph of cheap short-wave wireless over the costly high-power system, which up to the present has been to be essential for long distance communication.
The newspaper says:—"Wireless is likely to be a very cheap form of communication in the near future. It is therefore increasingly important that no bureaucratic restrictions should be placed on wireless, which would obstruct the benefits of free competi. tion between wireless and cables. "The time is ripe,” adds the newspaper. "for an impartial revision of the British wireless policy.”
