“THE VILLAGE BLACKSMITH.”
(1924 Model.) Under an ad for gasoline The village smithy stands: He’s agent for the Jinx machine And several other brands. Ho hasn’t shod a horse for years For fear he’d soil his hands. The children coming home from school Look in at the open door, And laugh to see some city fool Sot up an awful roar When called to pay some -whopping bill The smith has soaked him for, Oiling—refilling—repairing, _ Onward through life he goes. And never once despairing SoTong as his income grows. Each night the thought of someone done Augments his sweet repose. Percy Waxman, in ‘“Harper’s Magazine.” -
