Mr and Mrs Crichton (Wellington) are spending the Christmas and Now Year vacation in Palmerston North. .. Mr and Mr s Vergette (Christchurch), are arriving in Palmerston next week. ' $ Mr and Mrs Aldridge (Day’s Bay, Wellington), will be in Palmerston tor the Christmas holidays. Amongst the visitors to Palmerston North next week are: Mr and Mrs I.e Grove. Wellington; Mr and Mrs Jar. rett, Hawke's Bay; Mr and Mrs J. Harle. Wellington; and Mrs Thorne George, Napier. •Mrs Newton Broad (Feildlng), is the guest of her mother, Mrs r. Robinson, Christchurch for her brother’s wedding. Mrs W. D. Fitzherbert ha s returnea from a visit to Paekakarlkl. Mrs Athol Shannon (Klmbolton) is spending the Christmas vacation with Mr and Mrs E. C. Brown. St. Martin’s, Christchurch. Mrs J. S. Thomson (Nelson) is visiting Mr and Mrs T. Bain, Dannevirke. Sister Kearns. Plunket Nurse, left Palmerston North yesterday for Hastings, prior to taking up relieving work at Karitane Hospital, Dunedin, havingr been granted six months leave at yesterday’s’ meeting of the committee She was presented with a solid leather suitcase as a token of appreciation Sister Ogden will relieve Sister Kearns, while Sister Jones, of Dunedin. will take over the latter’s outpost work. Mrs John Murray kindly provided afternoon tea at the Sportsground yesterday for the Nelson College and Palmerston North Boys’ High School criclceters, and the ollicials. Assisting the hostess were Mrs J. Grant, Misses Olive Bett. Maisie Bennett. Dorna Hoddcr and Mr H. J. Thompson. It was a bitterly cold day and the good cheer v is much appreciated.
The English Society of Women Journalists is offering prizes of £SO and £25 for adults, and £lO for boys, and girls under sixteen, also certificates signed by the Prince of Wales, for essays not exceeding one thousand words on what Wembley has done for the Empire. WEDDING. KIRKLAND—ROWLING. A very pretty wedding, and one in which a. large local interest was manifested, was celebrated at. the bride’s residence, Palmerston North, on Thursday last. December IS, when .Mavis, only daughter of Mr and Mrs Oscar Rowling, of 12 Fitchett Street. Palmerston North, was married to Percy, eldest son of Mr and Mrs T. Kiri: and, Alfred Street, Palmerston North. The bride was attired in a very becoming three piece beige frock with hat to tone, and w-as attended by Miss Myrtle Paulin, Invercargill, as first bridesmaid, and Miss Clem Senk, Palmerston North, as second bridesmaid. The former wore an apricot morocain frock, with black hat, while the latter was attired in a lavender and grey, .iersey silk frock with-hat to tone. The bridegroom -was assisted by his brother Mr Hoy Kirkland, as best man. and by Mr Wm. Gavin as groomsman. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. M. A. Rugby Pratt, and at the conclusion a reception was bold, at which the usual toasts were honoured, the newly united couple receiving the felicitations Of numbers of friends. Mr and Mrs Kirkland left by the “Limited” express later in (he evening, the latter travelling in a dress of grey with hat to match.
