KIWITEA COUNTY

MEETING OF COUNCIL.

The Kiwitea County Council met at Kimbolton yesterday, present being Crs. L. T. McLean (chairman), W. P. Shaw, D. H. McLean, J. A. T. Brown, W. Hair, N. V. Shannon and T. D. Wood. ‘Correspondence. From the Public Works Department forwarding authorities for expenditure on maintenance of Choltenhani.Klm-bolton-Mang’awcka road, and the Klmbolton-Apiti road, amounting to £420 and £lO5 respectively.—Received. From the Medical Officer of Health, recommending that the. Council appoint a Sanitary Inspector for the County.—Resolved to appoint Mr .T. W. Huggins sanitary inspector for the district. From the Wanganui Education Board inquiring as to whether the Council was prepared to contribute half cost of,the work of re-erect-ing the dividing fence between the teacher’s residence and the Council's property at Ohingaiti.—Decided to accept the Board's plan for the boun. dary fence, subject to the work being done to the Council overseer’s satisfaction. From Mr A. McDonald. Rangiwahla requesting permission to erect a motor car shod outside his front gate. —Granted, subject to the approval of the engineer and no objection was raised by any ratepayer. From Messrs Hussey and Thompson, requesting the Council to take the necessary steps to stop the old Otara road and dispose of it in accordance with the provisions of "The Public Works Act. 1908,” and forwarding tracings, in duplicate, and a schedule. —Referred to the County solicitors. From the Department of Labour, advising that the Council was called upon to hold a special mooting in January for the purpose of fixing the half-holiday for the year, 1925.2 G Agreed to take the necessary steps. From the Public Works Department advising that a warrant under Sections 109 and 119 of "The Public Works Act. 1908," authorising the Council 1 o construct the road of approach of the Upper Kawhatau and Hikurangi Bridge and apportioning the cost equally between the Kiwitea and Rangitikei Councils, was now being prepared.—Received. From tlie Oroua County Council, forwarding copy of letter from the Council's solicitors advising that the matter of completing the joint bylaws could not receive attention until (bo heavy traffic regulations had been Gazetted. —Received. From Mr W. Hyde, complaining of nuisance caused by stock wandering on the road in front of his property. ‘Alain South road. —Left to the County Clerk. From the Palmerston North Hospital Board, requesting payment of second instalment of Hospital Levy for the current year.—Paid. General Business. The request of the Kimbollon School committee for three loads' of gravel for the purpose of forming paths round the school building was granted. '.Mr C. W. Thevenard, settlor, or Kimbolton, wrote protesting against being charged for current and outstanding rates on a Crown property which he had only acquired on November 25th. —it was decided to charge a proportion oi the. current year's rates and to apply to the Crown for ih ( . payment of the outstanding amounts. The tender of Mr D. Banks of £Ol5 for the erection of a roadman’s cot. tngo on Bull Flit! reserve was accepted, subject to the reserve being vested in the Council. Accounts amounting to £1414 4/9 were passed for payment. This sum includes the sum of £944 17/9 which reprmesonts a portion of the County's contribution to th e Palmerston North Hospital Board. Leave of absence was granted Crs. A. E. Pearce on account of illness and F. O. Stack on account of a bereavement in his family. The Council decided to send a letter of sympathy to Cr. Slack, whoso small daughter died recently. It was decided to call for tenders for the purchase of the balance of the timber from the Waituna cottage. It was resolved to impose a 10 per cent penalty on all rates unpaid by February 3 oth, 3 925. The result, of the finding of the Bryce Commission was announced at yesterday’s meeting of the Kiwitea County Council, and Councillors expressed their satisfaction. The County Clerk reported that, as a result of the Council’s notice, outstanding rates would ho sued for. a sum of £1823, had been paid in to date. For the observance of Christmas and New Year holidays, the County offices will clos e from December 23rd to Janaury sth. The next meeting of the Council was fixed for January 14th. At the close of business, the chairman conveyed to Councillors, members of the staff and the Press, the season’s greetings, which were cor- ’ dially reciprocated. County Funds. The postion of the County funds wag reported to be as follows: County fund account, credit, £1645 14/.: Bryce’s line special loan account, £123 14/7; employees’ accommodation special loan, credit £730 IS/5; Hospital loan account, debit £160; Kimbolton cemetery account, credit £2l 17/8: land fund account, credit £4O 9/4: land fund account No. 2, credit £412 IS/1; Parorangi road loan account, credit £2l 3/4; road machinery special loan, credit £199 7/0; Stent special loan account, credit £73 14/11; Waituna cottage loan account, debit £lO5, cemetery account credit £lO 17/1. Reserves Leased. The following recommendations oi the reserves committee were adopted;

Me Far! an o. at 32/6 per acre; por. (ion of Cheltenham Cross road. mar. Cheltenham township, containing 1 acres to tho estate of E. Short, deceased, at £2 per acre; portion or Cheltenham Cross roads adjoining Orona River Board, containing r> acres 3 chains, to tho estate of A. Bruce, deceased, at 30/- an acre.
