To be the means of saving the lives of several other peop’e and then to lose his own was the tragic fate of Henry Cottingham through the de struction by fire shortly after midnighl of a cookhouse at Mokai. Cottingham who slept on the premises, discovere 1 the building at daze and roused thother occupants, Collieoat and hi family, who conducted the coolchousThey escaped hastily through a win dow. Cottingham was not to bo seen but it was thought he had gone to tJm mill to have a siren sounded. His remains were found near the front dopr of the cookhouse when the fire had burnt itself out. Cottingham. who was employed as a genera l hand at the mill was a recent arrival from Lin colnshire.
