COLLISON IN RESCUE RACE,
LOCAL RECORD IN LEAPING
COMPETITION,
[Per Press Association.] DUNEDIN, Last Night.
Beautiful weather was experienced for people’s day at tho Show, and it drew a very large attendance. Unfortunately, an accident occurred in the rescue race, when two horses collided. Neither rider was seriously hurt, though both we r e badly shaken, and the horses sustained injured shouders. Two horsemen were returning after placing dummies in position and galloped down tho racing track, Instead of on the outside, and the two other contestants galloped up the field. Before they could get clear, the horses Lollis and Chummy crashed, falling heavily, but throwing their riders clear. Mr Ferguson, on Lollis, suffered an Injury to his knee, and ’Mr Merry, the other rider, was merely shaken. The race was abandoned.
The Now Zealand leaping championship resulted: Miss D. Mowatt’s Spanker 1, R. Brunton’s Sunbeam 2, Miss D. Mowatt’s Tahuna 3.
High jump: Geo. Roberts’ Puzzle (R. Coutts) 6ft. 3iin. 1, E. J. Dochorty’s Happy Jack Gft 2Jin. 2, Miss Mowatt’s Elaine sft. llin. 3. The height cleared by Puzzle is a record for the Otago Show.
