GISBORNE RACES. MAHIA WINS STEEPLES.' SCOTCH MIXTURE SUCCESSFUL. [Per Press Association.] GISBORNE, July 26. For the second day of tho Gisborne Racing Club’s steeplechase meeting, the weather was fine and tho goinggood. The totalisator investments for tho day wore £16,374, as against £3668 for the second day last year, an increase of £6706. For the two days, the total was £29,149 compared with £19,343 last year, an increase of £9806 Results: — GISBORNE HURDLES, 13 miles.— Hyrax (Hector Gray) 1, Jovial 2, Birka 3. Also started: Pavilion, Cuvier Light. Won by two lengths, five lengths between - second and third. Time, 2.53. ■MAIDEN HACK, 5 furlongs.— Merchant (Nixon) 1, Welcome Sound 2, Matin Bell 3. (Received Sunday 7 p.m.) LONDON, July 28. Humphries, a jockey aged 70, rode the -winner in a desperate finish fo-.-His Majesty’s Cup, Jersey, by a neck. He received congratulations from the King. Humphries rode in the same race half a century ago. The programme of the popular fixture, the Danncvirke Hunt Club’s point-to-point steeplechase has been issued. The meeting will take place on the Dannevirke 'racecourse on August 6.' Particulars are advertised in this issue.
