MARYLAND MOB ASSAULTS GIRL. REVENGE OF NEGLECTED WIVES. [By Electric Cable—-Copyright.] [Aust. and N.Z. Cable Association.] (Received Sunday, 7 p.m.) NEW YORK, July 25. At Frederick, Maryland, fifty men and several women waylaid Miss Dorothy Grandon, aged twenty years, while she was walking in the public highway at night time, stripped and tarred and feathered her, and left her unconscious. A passing farmer found and carried her home, and his wife applied home remedies The girl is at the point of death, her body being terribly burned and scarred. A tale of jealousy and outraged moral sensibilities lies behind the occurrence, which has aroused and shocked public feeling. Miss Grandon came here on a visit and while a guest at various parties given in her honour, attracted attention. She received anonymous letters asking her to leave the town, but she declined. Several townswomen made a charge that their homes were being broken up and their men neglecting them, duo to soc'al gaieties. Miss Grandon has identified nine of her attackers, especially two women who applied the tar and all of these have been arrested.
