KIWITEA COUNTY.

MONTHLY MEETING OF COUNCIL. The regular meeting of the Kiwitea County Council was held at Klmbolton yesterday, Cr. L. T t McLean presiding. CORRESPONDENCE. Prom the chief surveyor, Department of Lands and Survey, requesting the council’s consent to the proposed deviation of Bowling road. — Consent given. i Prom N. C. Jensen, Klmbolton requesting permission to re-erect his boundary fence on the edge of the roadside, fronting his property on John’s road. —Granted subject to the work being carried out to the overseer’s satisfaction. - Prom the Chief Traffic Inspector, Auckland City Council, advising of the cancelling of certain certificates of competency to drive motor cars in Auckland —Received.

Prom the Rankitlkei County Council, advising that it would confer with the Council in regard to the replacement of the Rangitikel river bridge at Vinegar Hill, which was estimated to cost £SOOO. Also advising that it had agreed to the terms of the Council’s notice to make application for a Government warrant to carry out the work of widening and metalling the road of approach to the Upper Kawhatau and Hikurangl bridges.— Received. Prom Mrs G. H. Brown, requesting permission to re-erect her boundary fnece on the edge of the roadllno fronting her property at Rewa. — 1 Permission granted subject to satisfac tion of County overseer. Prom the Treasury Department, advising payment of 75 per cent of subsidy on general rates for the current year amounting to £1623 15/-. —Received. From th e Public Works Department, forwarding authority for the expenditure of £2OO, being the amount of the Government grant in connection with the work of widening and metalling the Upper Kawhatau road. —Received. Prom 'Mr D. S. McLean, offering to erect a new bridge on the Rual road for the sum of £8 10/-. —Offer accepted, to work to be carried out to the approval of the overseer. Prom the Hon. D. H. Guthrie, Minister of Lands, advising that in his opinion the old Bluff Roa.rd school site was quite suitable for a roadman’s residence and that in the circumstances it would not be possible to accede to the Council’s request for a site out of section 0 Bull Plat. — Received. Pros ’Messrs Shannon Bros., requesting permission to take gravel from the bank on the Tapual road. —- Granted. Prom Mr H. A. Mitchell,- Kimbolton requesting the Council to asphalt the footpath in front of the hotel, and offering to provide the tar. —Agreed to, the work to be carried out under the supervision of the County overseer. RESOLUTIONS. Crs. Pearce and Shannon moved: “That the roadman at Waituna West be appointed sexton of the Waitune cemetery and that his services bo retained for those duties when required.” Crs. Shannon and Wood: “That the clerk be instructed to write to the Hon. D. H, Guthrie, stating that the Council is surplsed at his opinion that the old Bluff Road school site is suitable for aroadman’s residence, and to imform him that a deputation desires permission to wait upon him in connection with the matter. The deputation to consist of the chairman, Crs. Hair, Pearce, Wood and the mover.” Crs. D H. McLean and Shaw: “That the 'action of the chairman and Cr. Shannon in accepting the tender of L. C. Eggers for the supply and delivery of 500 cubic yards of metal on th e Pakihikuia Road, at 6/- per cubic yard be confirmed.” Crs. L. T. McLean and Pearce: “That Mr O. Ellison be Informed that the Council is prepared to grant him a lease of the extra acre of the Livingstone cemetery during its pleasure, at a rental to be fixed by the reserves committee.” Crs. Shaw and L. T. McLean; “That tenders be called for the supply and delivery of 200 cubic yards of metal from Smith’s pits, for the Kawhatau Cliff road; also 300 cubic yards of river-bed metal for the Mangawharariki road, between Fraser’s creek bridge and the Rangitikel river.” Crs. D. H. McLean and J. A. Brown. “That the overseers be instructed to furnish to the next meeting of the Council a list of all tools im plements, drays, and harness.” Crs. Pearce and L. T. McLean: “That the consulting engineer be asked to arrange an early date to visit the bridge sites in the County, and discuss the plans (two) supplied for proposed new bridges.” REPORTS.

The overseer for the southern ridings reported on general road and bridge work for the month_ The assistant overseer for the northern ridings reported inter alia, that the bridges on the ‘Mangamako road near Duncan's and Trickor’s and the one across the Tutaeawhio stream required attention, and the timber for these bridges should be ordered without delay. In the Paklhikura riding, there are a lot of old wooden culverts likely to collapse at any time, and he recommended the Council to keep a stock of concrete pipes. Temporary repairs had had to be effected to the ford on Mangahuia road_ It would be necessary to put in a groyne above the ford as early as possible so as to change the course of the stream.
