TUG OF WAR.

TO-NIGHT’S CONTESTS. Great interest should attach to the big tug-of-war contest at St. Patrick's bazaar to-night from the fact that one of the contestants in the Central Hotel team is no other than Billy Herbert, who arrived in Palmerston North on Thursday last, on his walking tour round the world. Mr. Herbert is a powerfully-built specimen of his race, and should be a decided help to his side. The opposing team, however, Ts not at all cast down, and is quite confident of holding its own. The other big pull is between a team of hefty townsmen, under the name of the “ I.ast Hope ” and a contingent or farm-bred athletes from Whakaronga. The conditions are the best of three pulls, and therefore patrons can be sur e of good entertainment. The contests will take place in the gallery of Zealandia Hall in full view of the patrons of the bazaar.
