LONDON, Oct. 21,
Sir Samuel Hoaro this afternoon addressed the Economic Conference. Ho dwelt on the rapid growth of commercial aeroplane services and outlined tho first stages of the imperial airship services— firstly the production of a suitable airship; secondly, the biweekly service to India, and, thirdly, the commissioning of six altships of five million cubic feet capacity. Various Dominion delegates raised criticisms, upon Which it was decided to appoint’ a committee to discuss the whole question of the Burney scheme with the Air Ministry, while the Dominions’ representatives will consider technical and other special matters with tho Air Ministry.
Licut-Coloncl Amery believed tho airship had reached a stage when Success Was assured. He pointed out the speed with which airships would be able to bo built. In the opinion of the Dominion representatives, I’o-day’s meeting was occupied by one of the most important discussions of any conference. Delegates got down to bedrock in dealing With vital questions, and much ground was cleared, but final decisions were not reached.
Outstanding features of the week had been a free interchange of views on naval, military, and air defence. The discussions hitherto have shown that the Dominions found much room foximprovement as regards communications, but compared with previous conferences tho Dominion delegates are satisfied that much valuable work is in the coux - se of completion. There is not a single question on which general argreement does not exist between tho overseas membei - s.
