TENNIS.
The PaJmerston North Tennis Club Is making rapid strides and the season promises to be a record one. Already the new courts ar e looking very promising and should be ready for play by the new year. The club's membership now exceeds 140, and is still growing:, while a new departure in the shape of a junior club is likely to prove a source of strength ill future years. The idea is to accept players under the age of IS years at a reduced fee, and allow them the use, of the courts up till 2 p.m. on Saturdays and 5 p.m. on other days, with experienced players to coach them. Mr. H. N. Watson's great services to the club and his unflagging, enthusiasm for tennis were recognised on Saturday last when he was the recipient of a presentation of a framed photograph, the president, Dr. Harnett, paying a well-deserved tribute to Mr. Watson's popularity and fine sport ing instinct. The donation of the magnificent gold cup to the club is another evidence of Mr. Watson's generosity. It is for open' competition in the annual championship, and will be competed for the first time this season
