At next week's conference of the National Unionist Association, Mr. Edward Duve.on will move that In order to develop tho resources of the Empire and in view of the necessity of finding productive employment for our surplus population, this conferencc urges the Government to make provision for the preferential treatment for British capital Invested with in fhe Empire by the Imposition of a lower income fax and death duties than on similar investments in foreign countries, and that the Government should submit this propos’al to the Imperial Conference, for consider ation, elaboration and reciprocal measures toy tho Dominions. Other motions suggest the abolition of the title Unionist in view of its lost significance, and the substitution of the term Conservative; that every constituency in the Kingdom should b e contested, and a general election centra: fund created for it. The Association’s annual report asks tho bellttloi’s of tire present Government to consider the alternatives —the Asqulthites, whose loft wing inclines increasingly to Socialism, and has a discredited policy of taxing lano and proposes not to act against foreign dumping, and Socialism whicrj had now openly revealed its mastership of the Labour Party machine. It is the Unionist Party’s duty to protect trade unionism from this insidious attack. and to ensure those seeking Its advancement that crafts’ interests an; not used to exploit political extremism for which the majority- had not askeo, and for which they have no desire.
Viscount Curzon invites the party to declare that the peace and prosperity of Britain can be based only upon an intimate and cordial understanding with France and our othci Allies.
