WEST COAST TRADE.
COMPLAINTS FROM DUNEDIN. INADEQUATE STEAMER SERVICE COMPLAINED OF. [Per Press Association.] DUNEDIN, Last Night. At a meeting of the executive of the Dunedin Manufacturers* Association, held to-night, it was unanimously agreed to cancel the affiliation of the Association with the Industrial Association of New Zealand. The question of lack of steamer communication with the West Coast was also discussed and the opinion freely expressed that the Union Company was not giving Dunedin an adequate steamer service with the Coast. It was pointed out that it was some four or five weeks since the company had put on a boat for Dunedin and that the business of local manufacturers and merchants was being severely affected. It was pointed out that if tho Union Company was not going to cater for tho West Coast trade, ,now that the tunnel for Christchurch was opened, Dunedin manufacturers should be told so and they could then take steps to meet the position.
It was also decided to appoint a deputation to wait on the local branch of the company.
