NATURE’S LAW AND THE FAITH HEALER.

(To the Editor)

Sir, —We are taught by science and our reason that the laws of Nature are immutable, immortal, infinite, asd eternal. Were this not so , then the study and dependence , upon the conclusions of science would be utterly futile. With unvarying accuracy the laws of chemistry conform to these conditions. To contemplate any other result is unthinkable. Physical disease is defined os “a natural disturbance caused by the promixity of two unrelated chemical substances.” How then ma.y we separate those warring elements by merely thinking about them, and refusing to take action, which is the highest manifestation of the law of God. Wise purpose in the infliction of pain is illustrated by the torture of a burn which may thus prevent the destruction of a living tissue. Will that law yield to the short sighted desire that we should not suffer by our sins? God sees to it that effect follows cause with unerring certainty. We are not punished for our sins, but by them. It is absolutely certain that no organic disease or physical deformity will be affected by any faith healer; but as imaginary diseases maf be cured by imaginary remedies, we may look for some good results from tho coming mission.—l am, etc., AN HONEST DOUBTER.
