ENTERTAINMENTS.
ROSY. A RATTLING PHOTOPLAY. Proving itself a rattling photoplay of the West, -“The Cowboy and the Lady” was received with enthusiasm by a good house at the Kosy Treatre last night. Mary Miles Minter, popular Paramount Star, and Tom Moore, a favourite screen player, are featured in this production. The stqry deals with a dilettante cowboy and a suffering wife. The two meet in romantic circumstances, and the action is swift, tense, and highly entertaining. The supporting cast is excellent. PALACE. Anita Stewart, in a fine out-door picture, “A Question of Honour,” scores heavily and makps many moie friends by her fine acting of a difficult role in which she risked her. honour and her life, sacrificed her betrothal to a man of millions for the pun she really lived. “The Three Must. Get a four-reel comedy burlesque by Max Linder and others is great comedy, in fact one o,f the best shown for many a long day. New Zealand’s gift to Princess Mary is also showing. HUBERT CARTER CONCERT. A rare and interesting programme has been arranged for .the grand concert in tli e Opera House on Wednesday next, October 10, by Mr. Hubert Carter and his advanced students, who are now well known and popular \ocant of Summer,” by the popular song alists. The new song cycle, " A Pagewriter, May Brahe, is being sung for the first time in New Zealand by Miss Mary Kfiarins, Miss Olive Bctt, Mr. Hubert Carter and Mr. Alan McLeavey. This work is in the composers well known melodious style, and will become very popular. A novel item, which is being presented in an original and thrilling manner, is the double quartettes, with solos by •Mr. W. B. Tennent. Mr. Carter’s items include the Prayer, from “Lc Cld,” “ Christ in Flanders,” and with violin obligatos “ Elegy ” “ Carmoia ” (Canto Sorrento) Rachmanicff’s new work, “ Oh, Cease Thy Singing Maiden Fair,” and with the addition of the organ Gounod's “ Ave Maria.” The platform decorations are again in the hands of Madame Imrie. Tne accompaniments will be played by Mrs. J. K. Paton and Mrs. W. H. K. - Gilmour, while the violin solos and obligatos will be played by Mrs. Law. The box plan will open to-morrow at G. H. Bennett’s, Broadway, and seats should be secured immediately, as tins programme should prove the most successful offering from Mr. Carter’s studio. ZEALANDIA ROLLER RINK. Preparations for the forthcoming carnival are going on at top speed, and judging by the number of skaters who are assiduously practising for the waltz, and two-step competitions both spectators and non-coijipet'itors are assured of seeing some very fine skating. The rink is open four sessions daily, and a good band is in attendance every .night.
