FIRE AT MAKINO.

HOUSE COMPLETELY GUTTED. Fire completely destroyed a sixroomed cottage, tho residence of Mr H. Y. Pope, situated on Makino Koad, at 10.30 on Tuesday night. All that re. mained of the dwelling yesterday were two brick chimneys and a heap of twisted corrugated iron. It is understood that earlier in the day a small outbreak of fire occurred, but Mr Pope succeeded in quelling this without any trouble. Nothing more was thought of tho matter, and the occupants were sound asleep when tho cottage burst into flames.' Those on the premises had only sufficient time to escape, and lost practically everything, A few personal belongings wore picked up, but Mr Pope has sustained a heavy loss.
