VACANT JUDGESHIP.
SIR E. P. LEE NOT A CANDIDATE. [Per Press Association.] OAMARU, Last Night. Mr E. P. Lee gives an emphatic contradiction to the canard (published in some papers yesterday) that he has been offered a Judgeship. He states that under the Legislature Act it is impossible for a persbn who has been a member of Parliament (other than the Attorney-General) to take the position of Judge for twelve months after he ceases to bo a member.
MR PARR’S DENIAL,
(From our Parliamentary Reporter.) \V x.j_,LINGTON, Last Night.
The question of the appointment of an additional Judge was referred to by Mr Parr to-night, when the Minteter stated there was no foundation in rhe report.telegraphed from Oamaru that Mr Lee was to bo elevated to the Bench. Until the Judicature Amendment Bill, now before Parliament, was passed, there was no authority to make a new Judge, and the appointment had i,ot even been discussed by Cabinet.
