Hennessey (Indianapolis), 3—5, 4 — 6, 's— G, 6—3, 6—4. AUSTRALIANS TO VISIT JAPAN. SYDNEY, August 22. The executive of tho Tennis Council have cabled J. O. Anderson agreeing to the Australia,n team’s proposed visit to Japan on their return journey from America. They have also suggested to Anderson that he should invite Japan to visit, Australia next summer. LADIES’ TOURNAMENT. FIRST ROUND OP INTERNATIONAL EVENT. NEWPORT, August 21. At Rhode Island, in the first round of tho international invitation tourney, Miss E. Goss (America) defeated Miss K. M’Kane (England), 7 —5, '6—4; Mrs Holla Mallory (America) defeated Mrs Beamish (England), 6 —3, 6—l; Mrs Covcll (America) defeated Mrs Ba.ncroft (England), G—l, G—o; Mrs R .C.
