R.S.A. BALL.

A BRILLIANT AFFAIR

Amid surrounding's as beautiful hands could create in the gaunt interior of tho Agricultural Hall, the fifth annual ball of the Palmerston North Returned Soldiers’ Association was held last night. It was a brilliant function and a greater success, perhaps, than any of its predecessors. It was generally agreed that in designing the decorations Mr. Dixon had surpassed himself. Blue was the predominant, note in the colour scheme. Sweeping festoons of pale and deep blue formed an airy ceiling, dotted with electric lights in orange and lemon shades. Among these hung bunches of blue balloons, each balloon being veiled in streamers of green. Th sitting out space round the walls was canopied in pale green and white and the electric lights on* sconces wore purple veils. A single row of six feet high opalescent jars in silhouette at Intervals divided this space from the dancing floor. Smith’s orches tra occupied a position against the east wall.

In the machinery hall, more sitting out accommodation was arranged in bowers of foliage. Spring flowesr in shades of yellow decorated the supper tables.

Mesdames Jacobs, Nathan, Trask, Fuller, Ashworth, Bett, Rutherfurd, McForran, Sinclair and Wilson, and Miss D. Wilson were chaperons Messrs J. R. Smith, F. Cousins, D. Dilks, and Li. Bryant were M.’sC. Approximately 200 couples were present.
