GENERAL CO.AHIITTEE MEETING A moeting of the general committee of tho Manawatu and West Coast A. and P Association was held yesterday, tho president, Mr K. W. Dalrymple, being in, the chair. Thore was a large attendance CORRESPONDENCE. From Mr O. Monrad, forwarding cheque in excess of tho amount charged him for the use of tho Association's grounds for his stud stock sale. Ho said it would be difficult to. find anywhere a place so suitable for tho offering of stud stock, either sheep or cattle.—Received. From tho Council of Agriculture, recommending that in purebred dairy cattlo sections at shows, all cows and heifers in milk must be milkod in tho presence of the stewards earlier than 4 p.m. on the day preceding the judging of such animals.—Adopted. A second resolution that it was desirable to endeavour to arrange some measure of federation of farmers' organisations, to deal with matters of common interest to farmers generally, was referred to the. members individually for consideration. From Messrs Wright, Stephenson and Company, advising that they had decided to donate a silver cup of 10 guineas annually to the Association for the Spring Show. The cup was to be known as the Wright, Stephenson Cup. Tho donors would like the first cup to be awarded in the Friesian section, the second to the Jersey section,i •;lic third to the Ayrshire section, and Mie fourth to the milking Shorthorn section; the cup to be won twice, and they would liko it awarded to the best yearling or two-year-old bull in, the section whoso dam had qualified for buttcfr-fat production, tho minimum being 500 lbs of butter-fat. —Accepted with thanks. The report of the proceedings, of the conferenco of the North Island A. and P. Associations, held during the Winter Shaw, and tho constitution then adopted, was received. The conferenco asked that the Association should alfiliate with it. Mr J. M. Johnston, who paid a tribute to the work of Mr T. M. Conway towards establishing 1 the conference, moved that the Association affiliate. This was seconded by tho chairman, and carried.
From the North Island Poultry, Pigeon ,and Canary Association, statins that it was desirous of paying: a tribute to. the work of Mr John Jarvis for the betterment of the industry. For this purpose it was raising funds to purchase two rose bowls, to be known as the John Jarvis Rose Bowls, for perpetual competition at the various shows. The Association would be grateful for anything the A. and P. Association could give.—Referred to tho finance committee. From Mr W. Appleto.n, Wellington, enclosing recommendations for an advertising campaign for the Royal Show at a total cost of £SOO. The chairman remarked that tho scheme did not pjrovide for advertising in the leading Agricultural publications. Mr R. S. Abraham suggested that a sub-committee bo set up to deal with advertising. The matter was a most important one. Mr J. M. Johnston remarked' that the proposed schemo did not touch the South Island at all. It was imperative that the South Island should be included. Mr Abraham's motion, that Messrs Collinson, Monrad, and Hannay bo appointed a committee to arrange advertising for tho 1924 show, was carried.
A voto of thanks was carried to Mr H. B. Tucker for the donation of two trophies—an oak biscuit barrel and silver cako dish—for the home industries section at the Spring Show.
