UNTRUTHFUL ADVERTISING.
FALSE REPRESENTATION. INVESTOR LOSES £2OO. (Pm Press Association). WELLINGTON, Last Night. In the Supremo Court Harold Macknelly was charged that, at Wellington, lie obtained £IOO from Cecil Rupert Hart by falsely representing that ho had the sole right from the Education authorities to distribute advertising in schools, per medium of the "School Journal.’’ The Crown Prosecutor said accused came front Auckland and inserted the following advertisement: "Partnership wanted, £2OO. Sound proposition, £S to £lO weekly. First capable inquirer invests.” .The advertisement was seen by two men, Hart and Shunders, Both replied, and Macknelly outlined his scheme to both gentlemen. Hart agreed to invest £2OO, paying £IOO ro the prisoner and the balance into the Bank of New South Wales as capital. Hart did some canvassing on behalf of the company, and discovered that there were others canvassing as well. He instituted inquiries, and found that Macknelly did not have the right from the Education authorities. The matter was then placed in the hands of the police.
Accused denied that he had made false representations, but admitted that he had no authority from the Education Boards. He said ho kept a confectioner’s shop in Auckland, and latterly had been a barman. He w:» found guilty and remanded for sentence on Saturday.
