The “ Daily Herald ” declares that a controlling share in Krupp's works has been brought by an Anglo-French comoine, headed by M. Loucheur, the French industrial magnate and politician, M. Wendel, a lead ng Lorraine Ironmaster, and Mr. Leslie Urquhart, of the Russian and Asiastio Consolidated Company. The “Herald" states that* behind the scenes of the Ruhr occupation, sale negotiations have been proceeding for some time. The first were with the Schneider-Creusot group, but these broke down, because Herr Schneider drov e too hard a bargain. The Krupp family retains part of the undertaking, but the controlling share in the Essen coal and steel works and iron mines at Limberg, Weilburg, Braunfels, Dillenburg ana Siegen, passes to the newly-formed group.
The " Herald ” says incidentally that Krupp’s workers, who invested 100,000,000 marks under a profitsharing scheme, lose practically every, thing. Immediately the agreement was concluded, passive resistances by Krupp’s workers died away, under threats of dismissal. The " Herald ” asserts other German firms are preparing to follow Krupp’s load.
<r LE TEMPS” COMMENTS. NEXT MOVE IS ENGLAND’S. PARIS, Aug 5. “Le Temps” says: “The policy’ indicated by Mr Baldwin’s speech docs not seem to enhance the British Cabinet's prestige. In a few days Cabinet is going to consider the position again. The initiative does not rest with France and Belgum now; it is for England to reply to the French and Belgian Notes.” BOMB THROWN AT GUARD. DUSSELDORF STUDENT ARRESTED. PARIS, Aug. 5. A telegram from Dusseldorf states that during the changing of th 0 guard at Dusseldorff, a bomb was thrown, wounding three soldiers and six German civilians. A German student named Raabe, the author of the outrage, was arrested. Several other arrests, Including riiat of the chief cf police, have been made. GERMAN WORKERS STEADFAST WILL RESIST TO THE LAST. BERLIN Aug. 4. “Der Lokal Anzeiger” states that the Labour Unions in the Ruhr have unanimously resolved not to drop passive resistance, even if England makes it an indispensiblc condition or the German Government orders cessation. RHINE INDUSTRI ALISTS, PROPOSITION TO FRENCH, PARIS, Aug. 4. “Lo Matin” understands that the French representatives in Dusseldorf have been authorised to listen to the proposals of the Rnine industrialists, and study the pc ssibility of a now regime, with a view to re-establishing productivity.
