RECONSIDERED
APPOINTMENT OF ELECTRICAL ENGINEER. The pendulum which has been swinging backwards and forwards in connection with the appointment of nn electrical engineer by the Borough Council swung towards the affirmative at last night's meeting with the adoption, after some discussion, of the following recommendation from the electrical committee: "That clause 2 of the committee's report on June lfi, recommending the calling of applications for the position of electrical engineer at a salary of £SOO per annum, with annual increments of £25 per annum for the first four years, was further considered, and it was nga'n decided to recommend that the Raid clause be adopted and applications called for the position forthwith." Cr. Jackson explained that Mr P,:ack did not want to make the appointment until the power house was nlmost completed. The committee, in previously considering the matter, believed that this would be wise: as they would be spending £3OO or £4 00 out of the electrical loan and the engmeor would have very little to do. However, in reconsidering the matter, they had come to the conclusion that the extension work for the eleven miles of streets would provide work for an engineer pending the completion of the power house. His Worship recommended the adoption of the committee's recommendation, lie believed that delay was dangerous and the recommendation was in the interests of all. The recommendation was adopted.
