COAL DEALERS COMPLAIN.

ABOUT COUNCILS TREATMENT. A deputation from the wood and coal merchants of Palmerston North waited upon the Council last, night to protest against the recent increase of 5/- to the dealers in the price of coke and the decrease, of 1/G to the public. This, the.v contended, was only supporting the big consumer, whereas the dealers supported the small consumer, as the majority of the latter had no means of getting the coke from the works. They contended there had been unfairness and asked that the Counci to the. dealers by measure and be charged by weight. The Mayor expressed the opinion that everything had been done to support all those concerned. Tt was finally decided that it. be a recommendation to the gas committee to call tenders for the distribution of coke to any part of the borough at so much per cent.
