ROAD IMPROVEMENT PROPOSALS.
COMPREHENSIVE SCHEME UNDER WAY. Definite proposals are on foot, and some announcement is anticipated this week concerning the Borough Council's efforts in the direction of the road improvement scheme. The proposals are most comprehensive, and will, if adopted, put an end to' the trials of motorists and other users of tho roads in and about tho town. "Pot holes" on the Borough portions of Kimbolton Road, Makino Road, and Aorangi Road are doomed. It is understood that the matter will be fully dealt with at this week's meeting of the Borough Council, when the Works and Finance Committee will bring forward its schemo. Satisfactory progress is being made in connection with the work of improving East Stroot, and it should not be long beforo the pedestrian traffic on this thoroughfare will be able to enjoy the privilege of a footpath. As this street is a stock route, the suggestion that tho footpath be raised is worthy of consideration, as it would afford protection from the stock to the many who use the street. At present children going to the Lytton Street school via East Street, have to walk on the road, and mobs of "scary" cattle are not exactly" nice things for tho children to meet. There is to be a meeting of East Street residents at the Lytton Street School this evening to consider this important proposal, and it is trusted that parents will make a special effort to attend.
