Kirkwood made his first appearance in English golf for 1923 with 72 and 67 in the “Yorkshire Evening News” tournanment at Leeds. He headed the list of the thirty-two who qualified. His 6 7 in a wintry gale with occasional showers of rate and hail was a remarkable effort and breaks the record for the course.
